Noooope. Nope Nope Nope Nope Nope, lol. "Nope Nope Nurses Melee" (or "搾精病棟" / "Sakusei Byoutou"... I'm not even going to say what its literal name is) is a fairly janky poverty fighter developed by Sakuken Games (SAKUSEI RESEARCH LAB x YANO KAKUTOU) in late 2023 with the FM2nd / 2D Fighter Maker 2nd engine and is a spin-off of the main hentai / pornographic visual novel NNN franchise (not "that" NNN you perverts). It was published a little later in early 2024 by our spicy friends at JAST USA, who have dubbed it "THE" video game of all time. I guess if I had to note something of interest, it uses some rudimentary A.I. generated content for backgrounds and music, and Tomoyuki Yano of NO MOTION (矢野ともゆき, a jovial cosplay / parody specialist who also dabbles in their own independent fighting games) somehow got involved, but it would be deemed a kusoge by most accounts and is played for laughs. By NNN aficionados for NNN fans, you won't find an especially deep game here, but it's still fun in a depraved sort of way.
It all started with a coffee pot that was delivered to the nurse's station at Pessimism Hospital. After drinking the coffee, the nurses became irritated and aggressive. The main character, Tachibana, is one of them. Even though she noticed something was wrong, she became on edge and threw herself into battle with the other nurses! Meanwhile, the sexual urges of the nurses, who were not satisfied even after relieving their irritation through battle, are directed at Yamada and his "unfortunate" condition where he needs to be "relieved" every few hours or face excruciating pain! Who is the mastermind behind this conspiracy!? Who is it!?! Well, it doesn't really matter, the plot is just a ploy to watch catfights take place. The Steam version is censored to be "All-Ages" (which is a heck of stretch) but a patch is available on JAST's site to return it to its origins (Sakusei Byoutou Fighters).
NNNM uses a three button primary attack scheme (Weak/Strong/Action) which break off into the game's medical-themed abilities which mostly mimic those from other fighters (Medical Guards / Parrying, Perfect Medical Guards if you time your Medical Guard just right that gives out more meter and less delay, Medical Cancels for chasing and extending combos, etc.). There is also the "Smash" mechanic which uses a fourth button (labeled D for simplicity) that expends different amounts of special gauge if you want to launch or give chase as well as the "Break Smash" that is an unblockable blow (unless you use a Perfect Medical Guard) to switch things up. The player can also execute "Medical Arts" (Super Moves) for two gauges and "Super Medical Arts" which utilize three gauges... but we're actually not done here.
There is an "Energy Boost" system which motivates your fighter when the player fills three orbs of the "Sakusei Gauge" (using the F button), granting the player a power boost but also allowing access to a character's most powerful technique for a limited amount of time (The Special Overdrive) and "Energy Counters" and "Medical Skills" (with the E button) that offer character-specific buffs or techniques while driving the opponent back. All these systems aren't things you haven't seen before, but they've been integrated here with a modicum of care and shows that while the game is basically a parody of more established fighting games, it is not in itself a joke of a game. Even so, the gameplay is pretty stiff with plenty of attacks not having obvious opening and ending frames, the graphics are not good, the music isn't that great, and the great designs of the parent series are completely absent here... but for only $5, it's still hard to say it isn't worth it, lol.
Each character has their own little stories and endings (even if the overarching plot is the same) and, admittedly, I've played worse fighters... even ones that aren't pandering to players with T&A. I did learn about a new Doujin game developer by going down this rabbit hole (Tomoyuki Yano) and more poverty fighters in the process and Dark One! / M's Toy Box (affiliated with the parent series) collabing with a fighter was a novel idea, so I'd say that my time with this game was a net positive. This is a video showing some things in action. You can get it (the censored version) at:
