In Norse mythology, Hel is the queen of the realm of the dead. She’s often portrayed with half blue dead face (also half black or red) and half flesh-colored.

She’s not recognized as a goddess, as her father is Loki (he’s sort of a demi-god) and her mother is a giantess Angrboda. She’s rather considered as ‘jötunn’ - a supernatural being/creature.

It was Odin the chief of the Aesir who threw Hel down from the sky into the depths of the underworld. Hel then made the underworld into her own realm and crowned herself Queen of Helheim.
